In the cool predawn hush of morning, Little Spirit awoke with a parched throat and a yearning that tugged at her very soul. She rose from her bed of woven reeds, the soft rustle of her linen dress blending with the whispering breeze. Adorning her slender form were delicate chains of gold and lapis lazuli, shimmering in the faint light like stars caught in the dawning sky. Around her neck, an amulet of Hathor hung, a protector on her journey. Her wrists jingled with the sound of silver bangles, each inscribed with sacred hieroglyphs invoking the goddess’ blessings. Her dress flowed like the currents of the Nile, shimmering with patterns of lotus flowers and sacred symbols embroidered in gold thread.
Little Spirit stepped out into the dawn-light, her sandals barely making a sound on the sandy earth. Her thirst was not just for water, but for something deeper. Driven by an unseen force and guided by a rainbow twinkling light in the pre-dawn light, she ventured towards The River, drawn by its murmuring song and the promise of spiritual nourishment.
As she approached the riverbanks, the first light of Ra’s sun began to crest over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of gold and pink. The Nile’s waters glimmered like liquid sapphire, its gentle waves lapping at the shore with an inviting murmur. Little Spirit knelt by the water’s edge, her fingers brushing the cool surface. She closed her eyes and offered a silent prayer to Hapi, the god of the Nile’s inundation, seeking his guidance and blessing.
She opened her eyes to the lightening Eastern skies. Sothis was still visible and she was reminded that His luminescent light bridged the earthly realm with the divine and that beyond the physical waters of The River, flowed a deeper, spiritual current—one that nourished her soul and connected it to the Creative Source.
She realised that the thirst that gripped her soul could be quenched, not with mere water, but with the essence of life itself—the spiritual nourishment that flowed from the heart of creation. She closed her eyes again and gave gratitude to Him.
It was just then that Little Spirit felt a presence – a shimmering figure bathed in celestial light.
Draped in flowing robes of translucent blue, Her eyes held the depth of ages, and around her neck, she wore a necklace of turquoise and azurite. She radiated an aura of serene power and maternal grace. Her presence was a gentle breeze that carried the scent of lotus blossoms and myrrh.

“Little Spirit,” Mut’s voice was like the gentle murmur of The River itself, “you seek the sacred waters, the source of life and divine connection.”
Little Spirit looked up, her eyes wide with wonder. “I seek more than just to quench my thirst. I wish to understand the sacred ways of the water, to honour it as my ancestors have done.”
Mut smiled, a serene expression that radiated wisdom. “Then you must learn to see the water not just with your eyes, but with your heart. The River is a gift from the gOds. It is life and it is spirit.”
She guided her to the water’s edge and gestured for her to sit. Mut extended her hand, her touch cool and comforting like The River’s embrace. “The water you seek is not just a physical sustenance, but a spiritual elixir,” she explained. “It is the ocean of the firmament, the primordial waters of creation from which all life springs forth.”
“Close your eyes, and let your spirit journey through the flow of The River. Feel its cool embrace, hear its ancient songs.”
Little Spirit obeyed, her eyes closing as she allowed her consciousness to drift into the rhythm of The River. She felt the water’s pulse, each ripple a story of creation and a memory of the gods. She saw visions of Osiris, his resurrection mirrored in the river’s annual flooding, bringing fertility and renewal to the land. She felt the tears of Isis, mourning yet hopeful, blending into the river’s flow, nurturing life in their wake.
Mut’s voice brought her back to the present. “Open your eyes, Little Spirit, and behold the sacred connection you now share with The River.”
When she opened her eyes, she saw The River in a new light. It sparkled with a divine luminescence, each droplet a sacred jewel. She cupped her hands and drank deeply, the water cool and sweet, filling her with a profound sense of peace and unity with the world around her.
“Remember,” Mut whispered, “The River’s waters are a gift and a responsibility. Cherish and protect them, and they will sustain you and your people for generations to come.”
Little Spirit nodded, feeling a deep resonance within her soul. As she drank from The River, she felt the spiritual currents coursing through her, awakening her to a higher understanding of existence. She understood now that her thirst was not just for water, but for communion with the divine, for a deeper connection to the cosmic rhythm that governs all life. With a heart full of gratitude and reverence, Little Spirit rose, her thirst quenched.
As the sun rose higher in the sky, painting the world in shades of gold and amber, Little Spirit and Mut remained by The River’s edge. They shared a timeless moment of spiritual communion, where words were unnecessary, and understanding flowed effortlessly between them. In that sacred space, Little Spirit embraced her role as a Guardian of the Waters, vowing to honour and protect the life-giving essence that sustained her people and connected them to the infinite.

“Like as the deer yearns for the running streams so does my soul yearn for you my God” – Psalm 42

Fundamental to being human lies a thirst, a yearning for sustenance that transcends the mere need for water. Residing in your heart is a imperceptible pulse that quietly ‘calls’ you into movement towards an invisible centre-light. Call it metaphysical or existential, call it gOd or Light, call it what you want, but one fundamental truth remains – we are called towards something that satisfies our longing for true, sustained, unconditional meaning.
Just as a river proactively moves ever forward towards its ultimate destination – the ocean, thirst, from a spiritual perspective, compels you to actively seek something into which you can merge and become whole. Hence thirst also symbolises a pilgrimage for truth, wisdom, and enlightenment. Spiritual seekers often describe their journey as a thirst for knowledge and understanding, an unquenchable desire to uncover the mysteries of existence and to attain a higher state of consciousness. This longing drives the pursuit of spiritual practices, study, and contemplation.
There are three dimensions to thirst – an outward search for sustenance, a quest that winds its way through valley and hill and meandering through floodplains; an inward dive into meaning, as the soul turns its attention away from the world; a living testament, or witnessing, of those insights, as an exchange takes place between self and those in your world.
Cardinal Water
Astrologers will immediately note the reference to the modalities in consciousness, Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable – the three states through which perception is expressed. Cardinality, that active state that externalises the process of creation, actively seeks a hungry expression, and has no concern reflecting or integrating, but purely creates a dynamic path towards the expression of some facet of your life.

Water reflects your emotional intelligence, that delicate dance of awareness and empathy, intricately woven into the fabric of your being. It is the water within you that bathes you in the fertile amniotic creative source, opening your heart to pure and unfathomable imagination, and invites you to drink deeply from the cup of experience – to savour the bittersweet nectar of growth and transformation. It is the water within you that guides you through the landscapes of joy and sorrow, love and loss. It is the gentle touch that soothes the turbulent waters of fear and uncertainty, transforming them into pools of resilience and acceptance.
The notion of Cardinal Water, more commonly known as the zodiacal sign of Cancer, is a consciousness filter that actively seeks to find ways in which your emotional intelligence will forge a river-way in your psyche, enabling the pure and unfiltered expression of your feelings and imagination in your world. And it is this ‘sign’ that the forthcoming 5th of July lunation that the forces of Yin and Yang unite.
Sirius, Vega and the Black Sun
Yet, behind the luminosity of our yellow star, an invisible power emanates, its pulsating tone felt not heard. This unseen hand breathes an indistinguishable radiance into our solar system, infusing every beam of sunlight with a deeper understanding of creation, for those whose senses have awakened. Amplifying the ethereal body of whatever it is attuned to, this rainbow twinkling being, is a celestial beacon, guiding those who seek to a heightened state of awareness, eclipsing the ego and allowing the Pure White to burn through the ego concerns of that which it streams into. Its unseen hand breathes life into our Yang light and it offers it gateway to spiritual growth and enlightenment and is a path beyond this physical realm back to the gOd realm, and to immortality.
Known as Seirios to the Greeks and Sothis to the Egyptians, whose monuments are aligned to its majestic presence, Sirius, the brightest star in the Northern Skies, has a rich heritage across all cultures. Its presence is to raise up the ego light beyond its concerns of becoming and opening up a doorway to letting the true Light pour forth. It is directly opposed to the toning star, Vega, who lifts your awareness to new heights, each note a stepping stone towards enlightenment.
Together, those two stars presence is to lift our humanity up, focusing on matters that alleviate the pain and suffering of our ‘dual’ existence, twins that have become towering pillars of Babel, obscuring the horizon from hope and awareness. They speak in tongues that our ears don’t understand and so they come to you as a feeling impetus, revealing themselves to you within the subtle frameworks that lie deep within the four agencies of perception – the elements.

Vega, in Cardinal Earth, Sirius in Cardinal Water, serve to awaken the embodiment process to galactic heights, streaming light-tones together, that opens you up to the Invisible Light of unbound, chaotic and chthonic potential, the Black Sun – the point at which the ‘white’ Sun has the least gravitational association with the Earth.
This coming lunation ‘activates’ these stellar being opening up the conscious opportunity to quench your thirst as you steer along The River towards this portal of infinite, a gateway that opens up your consciousness to a Light transcending that of our Yellow One.
Final Thoughts
So let’s honour your thirst – not as something to be quenched, but as a sacred draught that satisfies your soul. I hope you can cultivate your emotional intelligence with reverence and gratitude, knowing that it is through your capacity to feel deeply that you can expand upon your capacity to love and to be loved.
