The New Moon in Mutable Earth on the 27th of August at 9:17 am BST

Our physical reality is composed of a complex interwoven interplay between a variety of vibrational pulses which imperceptibly alter over time. Those subtle shifts reflect changes within our personal and collective perception of our world and consequently set a ‘tonal’ framework within which decisions are made. Those choices open pathways that define or reinforce a certain reality, and subsequently give embodied form to the qualities of time into which they are conceived.
Some of those vibratory impulses are quite loud, acting like a shockwave that overtly ripples through space and time in an immediate manner. Others are subtle and quiet, yet can be heard over longer periods, gently whispering through the deeper dream hints of a deeper reality that could be on offer to those who listen. Towards the end of 2011, the tone of one such ‘voice’ altered and what has been unfolding during the redistribution of power of January 2020 is but one ‘louder’ reflection of this shift in emphasis.
For a little over two thousand years the wisdom of our heart has been accessible through a very deep exploration of your inner spirit to find the gO(l)d within. Countless tomes have extolled this gnosis and have formed the very backbone of many of our spiritual traditions. The emphasis has always been on the hero retreating from the world as ‘he’ confronts his Shadow before reaching a state of Samadhi, enabling him to self-actualise and self-individuate. Little homage has explicitly referenced the wider implication and responsibility of that journey, since the focus has been a linear one – on self (self-knowledge, self-responsibility, self-healing).
This is truly a Yang approach, after all when do you know of a ‘man’ who can hold multiple things to the fore of his mind and is able to action on all simultaneously?!
Regulus Ingress into Virgo
Since late November 2011 the wisdom of the heart arises not out from a gnosis of the inner spirit but from a powerful awareness of the embodied intimate intricacies of relationship. In other words, a Yin approach is now contemporary with the deeper vibrational framework we reside within as opposed to a Yang approach which was relevant since the time of the emergence of the Christos. This is important to understand if you are to engage in any real spiritual work during this time of global and ecological crisis, since the ‘feminine’, or more aptly and neutrally termed ‘Yin’, holds the unique understanding of the sacredness in matter and how we need to reawaken that aspect of life.

Before I write further, I would like to immediate dismiss any notions that may arise that my sentiments will further the intentional divisiveness so prevalent within our contemporary world. This article is to merely outline as to why the ‘feminine’ holds the secret of creation during this time of transition from a pyramidal and hierarchical perception of reality towards a circular, inclusive and holistic model. It is my personal belief that both the feminine principle (the receptive quality in consciousness) and omen in general, have a pivotal role to play during this time, as our model of reality crashes down, no longer able to hold resonance within a tone that has subtly altered. Moreover, this ‘new’ reality needs to be not only acknowledged, but honoured by the feminine principle within ‘men’, so that this secret can be revealed – that the power of the receptive feminine and her particular relationship to the spiritual principle of holding the light is needed to redeem the world.
Women are truly of the Earth. Men are merely ‘visitors’. Perhaps this is why the masculine has sought to over compensate and impose themselves onto the world – to prove to themselves that they ‘exist’ here. After all it is ‘woman’ who truly multiplies everything that she touches – she not only nourishes the seed of creation, she holds the space in which that seed is ‘doubled’ or replicated, a space in which she nourishes and sustains this creation, as she ‘labours’ and ‘suffers’, before holding delicately, yet firmly, life in her arms. Of course the masculine is the activator and potentially the protector, but in truth, it is through an embodied and intimate knowledge of the spirit within matter that ‘woman’ truly experientially understands and is able to communicate, a knowledge that ‘man’ can only know but not experience. That intimacy yields a deep understanding of symbiosis, of rhythm, of cycle, or protection and of co-existence, something that has not been enshrined within the institutions created by ‘man’, institutions that are dissonant to the current tone.
The secret of creation is merely the awareness of the light hidden in matter, and it is this sacred light that the feminine understands because women alone can give birth to a human being, thereby bringing the light of a divine soul into this world. The isolated, fragmented, insular culture we live within is profoundly yang. It lacks oneness. It has no holism. It has little community. And the mysteries of the 2012 shift foretold by the Mayan’s, along with the eventual movement of the Precessional Ages from the Fish to the Angel, was heralded by the last of the Watchers transitioning to a new consciousness landscape in 2011.
The message of Virgo

The emerging paradigm is one that our First People experientially embodied – that ecologically we are one, economically we are one, and of course in the deep spiritual sense we are all one expression of the divine oneness that is inherent within everything.
This is why communicating the wisdom of the feminine has become so important. The Yin truly understands the dynamics of embodied relationship, how to listen and be receptive. It is perhaps why so many women are finding a ‘mate’ so challenging. As the vibratory conditions are becoming increasingly ‘yin’, more and more women are truly awakening and consciously knowing what constitutes true intimacy – a holistic interaction across multiple planes of consciousness simultaneously, all the while holding a space for the gnosis of the inner spirit and embracing the Shadow, as opposed to killing it off, or ignoring its existence.
This communication of an embodied knowledge has another name within the language of astrology, a discipline that attempts to give meaning to the vibrational essence of our universe. It is merely known as Mutable Earth, or Virgo. Mutable translates simply to the direction in which energy is carried and refers to the two way exchange of energy between ‘self and other’. Earth merely means Matter. Together they refer to the living earth or the spirit that exists within the physical realm and its need to be communicated.
Virgo, therefore is a yin consciousness that is consciously and explicitly attuned to the life of the body, the Earth and to Nature Herself. Women, in general, are more instinctively and naturally attuned to life, its patterns and powers. They carry the instinctual knowing of the divine substance in matter, carrying this spiritual substance in their spiritual centre, and understand, regardless of whether they chose to become a physical mother, how to bring this substance into life because this knowledge is fundamental in the process of giving birth, thus to awaken the spiritual potential of matter.
Women also instinctively understand the connections between people and the connections within life in a way that men don’t ‘get’ and it is during this time that women are so needed to bring a seed of pure light into life where it can create new forms and new patterns of interrelationship that are essential to the healing and transformation of life. It is this wisdom that is needed for the regeneration of the earth, and the Earth’s awakening.
Virgo and the Maiden
If you are a student of astrology and confused about the above depiction of ‘Mutable Earth’ with my account of what ‘woman’ offers, and the astrological symbolism of Virginal or Maiden Virgo, please remember that the concept of ‘maiden’, or unmarried young woman, has been mispresented. Virgo refers to the notion of Virginal, a state I have written extensively about on previous articles on Virgo, a yin state of being that is neither subdued nor controlled by the masculine.
Virgo is the only sign of the zodiac that depicts a woman and has been associated with most of the main female deities – Ishtar, Inanna, Ceres/ Demeter, Astraea, Erigone, Isis and Mary. Each, in their own way, were virginal in that they belonging to themselves and owed allegiance to no exclusive male partner. In three of the Virgoan deities we find the ‘Virgin’ Mothers – Eve, Isis, and Mary – and they symbolically serve as three aspects of the personality through which ‘the Christ Child’ must find expression.
Within the spiritual traditions, this Christ Child does not refer to the physical birth of a divine child, nor is it about a religious figurehead. The Christ child, or consciousness, essentially refers to a state of being that is free from the limitations of the material world and of physical desire; a state that is self-realised and fully conscious; or an enlightened state, a state of perfection.
The sign of Virgo itself symbolises a synthesis of these three feminine aspects—Eve, Isis and Mary. She is the ‘Maiden’ Mother providing you with what is necessary for your mental, emotional and physical expression of your hidden but ever present divinity, protecting the germ of your Christ life and guarding, cherishing and nurturing your soul.
If you have a planet within the sign of Virgo, you have chosen a lifetime wherein some specific aspect of your psyche is called upon to awaken to this maiden process, helping that dimension of your soul to become self-sufficient through a process of stillness, non-judgement and open humility. For example, if Mars is in Virgo, you are being asked to use your energy with discernment and to give of yourself free from a sense of duty and guilt of egoic desire. The aspects made, or received, by Mars will show the assistance or distractions that will accompany you on that journey towards wholeness.
If you don’t have an angle or planet contained within Virgo, you can still access this state of consciousness, although it may not be as pressing as other zodiacal archetypes speak to you. The arena of your life wherein Virgo falls (the house) symbolises a region within your psyche wherein you consciously seek self-containment and the key to helping you unlock your spiritual self.
The New Moon in Virgo
The coupling of the Sun and Moon within a specific zodiacal sign each month, offers an opportunity to replenish and renew, to set intentions and to gain insight into how integrated that particular archetypal theme is for you. With the 27th of August 2022 lunation, the theme is to ask whether you have given permission to the countless earthly distractions to direct your focus away from your spiritual practise and whether you have prepared yourself to become truly self-sufficient.
Moreover, given the importance of the Virgoan sign in the context of the collective zeitgeist, this lunation is a timely reminder about the importance of communicating the intimacy of physical presence to everything living being, human or otherwise, and a reminder that we are part of a deeply interconnected living organism. What we do to ourselves, we do to another. There is no up there or out there. There is only in there. And communicating what is within, and listening, receiving and hearing what is within another is all that is important. This lunation is a call to remember the Path of the Maiden, and the sacred journey of hosting the spark of divinity within, as well as giving homage to the spark of divinity within another.
Remember that the sacred can be breathed in, tasted, touched, heard, and seen as much in the body of the earth and the body of another living being. To awaken again to this deep knowing is to be transformed in the ways you choose to live, relate and act.
Blessings to you and those in your world, as the work you do for yourself, is work you do for us all.
